Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Keoladeo National Park, a historically significant artificial bird sanctuary in Bharatpur, was formerly known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. During the British era, Keoladeo served as a royal hunting reserve and a game reserve. Today, it stands as one of the most significant bird feeding and breeding places in the world. Also referred to as Bharatpur National Park, it spans 2,873 hectares of grasslands, forests, and marshes and is situated at the confluence of the Banganga and Gambhir rivers.

With more than 370 different bird species calling it home, this renowned avifauna sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Moreover, the park is a must-visit destination during winter when migratory birds from Siberia, China, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan arrive. Keoladeo National Park is also the sole location in India where you can spot Siberian cranes during the winter season.
