Humayun Tomb Delhi

Undoubtedly one of the popular tourist attractions in Delhi, Humayun Tomb was built in the memory of the second Mughal Emperor of India, Humayun by his beloved wife, Biga Begum or Haji Begum. Showcasing Mughal and Persian style of architecture, Humayun Tomb is made of red sandstone along with white marble.

This one-of-a-kind garden tomb is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which you will find in every Delhi sightseeing tour. Haji Begum not only chose the Persian architects who created the monument, but also its location in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin East neighbourhood. On the Yamuna River’s banks, next to the dargah of revered Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, is the Humayun’s Tomb. the very first building to use red sandstone on a grand scale.

The entrance to the Humayun’s Tomb is through two double-storeyed, 16-metre-high gateways to the south and west that are decorated on the upper floors with halls and a courtyard. And one of the interesting facts about Humayun Tomb is that, the Humayun’s Grave does not have a mosque; rather, it is distinguished by the tomb of the emperor’s preferred barber.

This must-visit place in Delhi, the complex of Humayun Tomb houses several other famous tourist spots to visit such as Charbagh, the Persian-style garden. The others are Tomb and mosque of Isla Khan, Nila Gumbad, Chillah Nizamuddin Auliya and Barber’s Tomb.
